Student of the month for April 2020!
Congratulations to Sensei David Henshall, our student of the month for April 2020! He is 49 years old and works for Semiconductor Research Corporation! David started martial arts training in 1995 in New York to find something to focus on and keep him out of trouble! He has been training at CMAC since 1996 and is a 4th dan in Shito-ryu karate and a 1st dan in kobudo(weapons)! His favorite part of training is the life lessons that karate teachings for every other part of his life! Beyond life lessons and spending time with other martial artist, he enjoys the competitive nature of sport karate and win or lose, really enjoys the competition of kumite (sparring)! David was national champion in sparring and weapons in 2013 and 2019 for the AAU! He is also a nationally certified coach for the Amateur Athletic Union program! Outside of the martial arts David enjoys fishing and beaching with his family, wife Ginger(brown belt), daughter Lizzie(Rutgers Univ. gymnast), and son Nathan(black belt)! His favorite foods are shake-n-bake chicken wings and shrimp egg rolls from China Star next to the dojo! David is one of our head instructors and has always been quick to jump in and teach! He also teaches weapons classes for another dojo in Raleigh(Triangles Best Karate)! Check out his online training class he put together to develop sparring footwork!
