Student of the month for October 2022!
Congratulations to Sue Gouchoe, our student of the month for October 2022! Sue has been a longtime student of Carolina Martial Arts Center! She is currently a Ikkyu brown belt.
Sue started training in 2003 after her son, Matt, had been training for a few months. Having been a serious athlete through college, Sue saw karate as a great opportunity to take on a new physical and mental challenge. However, it was the welcoming and family-like atmosphere of the dojo that really inspired her to give it a try. After earning her Ikkyu brown belt, injuries, family obligations and a move to California kept her away from karate for about 13 years. She reconnected over the pandemic with ZOOM classes and several in person classes while we were outside. But as of September 2022, she is back and grateful to continue her training with Sensei and her new dojo friends! “I held onto my gi, belt and sparing gear all those years. I just knew I’d come back to it someday. It’s never too late!” Sue especially likes sparring drills and learning new katas.
Sue works in the precision medicine/genomics strategy field. Fettuccini carbonara and milk chocolate with almonds are her favorite foods. Outside of karate class, she enjoys photography, scuba diving, travel and of course, spending time with family & friends. Great to have Sue back training with us!
