Student of the month for March 2024!
Congratulations to Thomas Glenn, our student of the month for March 2024! Thomas started training at Carolina Martial Arts Center in June 2023 and tested for his 9th kyu yellow belt in November 2023! He is very close to testing for his 8th kyu yellow belt. Thomas is 9 years old and is home schooled. His favorite subjects are math and science. After playing a few years of soccer and baseball without really finding a passion for either, he discovered martial arts and has thrived at CMAC with the mix of learning karate skills and having fun. A couple years ago, Sensei attended Thomas’s cub scout pinewood derby as a guest judge. At that time, we were impressed with Sensei’s passion and authenticity. During the pinewood derby, Sensei asked a few of his students who are also scouts to recite the mantra they do in every class…”Karate begins and ends with courtesy and respect, I am responsible, lead by example, no excuse for bad manners,….”). Even though Thomas didn’t begin attending CMAC until year or so after the pinewood derby, we never forgot the positive impression left on us from Sensei’s visit. Thomas’s favorite part of class is learning his kata and getting to play the fun skill building games during class like relay races and the musical chairs style ring game. Thomas’ parents especially like the emphasis that Sensei places on being a good citizen and building character in youth. Outside of class, Thomas has been involved in cub scouting for three years with Pack 424 and is currently a Weebelos. He loves learning outdoor skills, discovering how things work, & playing video games. Thomas says to remember, “practice is your superpower!” Great job Thomas!
